Whitby Art Society has been in existence for more than 40 years and currently has about 90 members. Most members practice art in some form - mainly painting in a variety of mediums. Some members work in ceramics, printing or sculpture and various forms of material design, whilst others appreciate and enjoy art for its own sake.
We meet from 7.00 pm - 9.00pm on the second Wednesday of every month at Sneaton Castle, Castle Road, Whitby with the exception of December (when members and guests enjoy a Christmas dinner and entertainment at a local hotel) and February (the A.G.M). The February AGM also includes a critique by professional artists of members' submitted work.
The monthly meetings take the form of a demonstration or talk by an invited professional artist or craftsperson. Questions are welcomed! Each evening includes a break for a coffee or a drink at the bar.
We hold an annual selling exhibition in the Spring at the Pannett Art Gallery, Pannett Park, Whitby. Other events are planned from time to time.
Membership fees are currently £25.00 per annum, payable from February. Guests are welcome for a fee of £3.00 per evening.
